Criminal investigators discovered a card den in the office of the Paris restaurant yesterday afternoon. A game of twenty-one was being played by four men when police arrived. On the table were 590 kroons in cash, which the officers confiscated. It turns out that detectives received a tip that high-stakes gambling had been taking place in the Paris over several consecutive days. An officer was sent to the scene at once and caught the men in the act. After confirmation of the men’s identities, the participants were found to be Tartu businessman R.P., government official N.K., university undergraduate Alfons Elland and known gambler Albert Sibul, who is from Narwa. The police investigation ascertained that Sibul had organized the game. The men started drinking in the restaurant, after which they moved into the office. Over three days the Tartu businessman lost a sum in the region of 2,000 kroons. Since the man did not have that much cash on his person, his fellow players also accepted IOUs to the amount of more than 1,000 kroons.
